PORTAGE | A Portage man was arrested early Sunday morning after he allegedly pointed a loaded pistol at three people while he was looking for his wife.
Mark Perez, 31, of 6015 Canden No. 5, was charged with three felony counts of pointing a weapon and two misdemeanor counts of operating while intoxicated.
Police were called to an apartment in the 5900 block of Sunrise just after 4 a.m. Sunday. The apartment resident said Perez and his wife had been at the apartment after being at a party. The two were in an argument, and Perez was drunk, according to the report. The resident asked them to leave.
Perez left and, 10 minutes later, came back and banged on the doors and windows for his wife. Perez came into the building and was asked to leave again. Perez pulled a handgun and loaded a round in the chamber. The resident got in front of Perez to prevent him from getting further into the apartment because there were five children present.
Perez yelled for his wife and she came out of a back room and left with him.
Police later stopped Perez on Willowcreek Road. He initially refused orders to put his hands outside the window. He eventually complied and was arrested. Perez refused to take any field sobriety tests. The gun was found in his car, and he was transported to Porter County Jail.
