PORTAGE | A Portage man was arrested Thursday evening after threatening another man with a gun and resisting police officers when they put him under arrest.
Jaray Davon McCord, 22, of 2332 Dombey Road, was charged with intimidation and resisting law enforcement, both felony counts.
Police were called to the Dombey Road address at 6:43 p.m. Thursday for a report of two men fighting inside the residence. When police arrived, a man and woman were outside the residence. The man told police that McCord had threatened him with a gun and the two wrestled in the living room of the home until McCord dropped the gun.
Police cleared the home and found McCord walking in the backyard. Police handcuffed McCord, who police say appeared to have been drinking. McCord said he and the other man got into an argument and McCord grabbed a gun and told the man to leave.
Police later found the gun, unloaded, on a kitchen counter. McCord was placed under arrest for intimidation.
As a reserve officer attempted to transport McCord to Porter County Jail, McCord allegedly tried to slip out of his handcuffs. When the reserve officer pulled over and called additional units for assistance, McCord attempted to get out of the police car. When police tried to get him back into the car, he "flailed about," according to the report. One officer received an injury to his hand.
McCord was eventually subdued and hobbled, and transported to jail.
