PORTAGE | A LaPorte man is in critical condition after veering off the road Monday on Interstate 94, police said.
Charles W. Morgan, 68, was driving at about 3:10 p.m. heading east in a 2012 Ford Fusion when he began to feel ill, Indiana State Police said. Morgan veered off the road and hit a concrete median twice.
His wife was able to press the brake pedal to stop the car, police said. A nearby motorist, Tim Mark, of Trail Creek, pulled over and helped remove Morgan from the car.
Two troopers who were in the area saw the car and began performing CPR on Morgan until medics arrived on scene.
Morgan was transported to Porter Regional Hospital where he remains in critical condition. Police said Morgan was driving home from a doctor's appointment at the University of Chicago when the crash happened.
