PORTAGE | The investigation into missing Portage Park Department money has been turned over to the Porter County prosecutor's office.
Parks Superintendent Jenny Orsburn told the City Council Tuesday night that a minimum of $300 was taken. That, she said, is the bartender's "bank" at the beginning of the evening.
A bank bag of money went missing in mid October. A bartender had dropped the money bag through a slot in an office door, which is a secure room and standard procedure for the department on Oct. 12. On the following Monday, the bag was reported missing by an employee.
Orsburn said the bartender followed procedure that night and has been cleared, but there is a suspect in the case and whether charges are pursued is up to the prosecutor's office.
Orsburn also told the council the procedure for dropping off bags has been changed. She said the department is also installing security cameras throughout the city parks, including Woodland Park.
