PORTAGE | The Portage Moose Lodge held its annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner which was free to everyone. They invited the residents and staff of the area’s senior living centers and residence homes. Also invited were the local police and fire departments and their families. It’s their way of saying thank you and giving back to their local community, which is made up of Portage, South Haven, Hobart and Lake Station.
They served about 500 people. At least two facilities bused over their residents and seniors. The Portage Police/Fire/EMS were in attendance, as well.
It is an event that volunteers are very proud to be a part of. "Our first diners that day were from a local residence home, their smiles and many of them saying thank you and blessing us for doing this, reassured me that the hard work was worth it," recalled John Sheppard, Portage Moose governor. They want to thank all those that attended and donated.
Besides involvement in community service programs, the Moose Lodge and Family Center is a volunteer organization that provides a family environment & education for children in need and residence at Mooseheart, Ill. They also provide for the needs of seniors at Moosehaven, Fla. Which are both living facilities with custodial care.
If anyone is interested in participating in next event, they can contact the Lodge at (219) 763-1046. Donations and volunteers are appreciated.
