Power is expected to be restored Wednesday to the just over 100 NIPSCO residents who have been in the dark for more than 48 hours.

NIPSCO representatives reported 124 customers without power Wednesday morning, primarily in Portage.

More than 25,000 NIPSCO customers lost power Sunday night when powerful storms ripped through portions of the region. The storm caused extensive damage to NIPSCO's electric system.

The utility reported broken poles, downed wires and other system equipment, primarily in Gary, Hobart and Portage.

NIPSCO representatives said those remaining without power should have it restored by mid-afternoon Wednesday.
