PORTER/LAKE COUNTY | Porter County Community Foundation and the Legacy Foundation of Lake County (Community Fund) awarded NorthShore Health Centers with grant funds, which will allow NorthShore to purchase Monitor Fetal Corometrics Twin Fetus 172 (Non-Stress Test) equipment for both NorthShore’s Scottsdale Center and Lake Station Medical Center. This equipment will be used to provide Non-Stress Test assessments for uninsured and underinsured at-risk pregnant women to prevent preterm delivery/low birth weight babies. Early detection allows us to determine if further medical intervention is needed and to help prevent preterm delivery, which is one of the leading causes of infant death in Indiana.

The Non-Stress Test is a non-invasive assessment tool that provides early detection of fetal distress. A Registered Nurse will complete the Non-Stress Test, as ordered by the expectant mothers' OB/GYN physician. Thanks to these two Community Foundations, NorthShore Health Centers can provide this much needed service to the pregnant women of our communities, in both Porter and Lake Counties.
