PORTER TOWNSHIP | An off-duty Portage police officer and his wife were injured Wednesday in a crash at on Ind. 2 at County 500 West.
DUI charges against the woman who police say caused the wreck are being sought.
Porter County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Larry LaFlower said the crash occurred about 6:45 p.m. Wednesday.
Portage officer Frank Lizak was northbound with his wife in Lizak’s fully marked 2012 Dodge Charger police cruiser.
LaFlower said the other driver, who was southbound, was waiting to turn left at the intersection and pulled in front of Lizak.
LaFlower said the force of the collision forced the police cruiser off the road taking down a utility pole.
Lizak was taken to Porter Regional Hospital with minor chest and head injuries. He was treated and released.
Lizak’s wife, whose name wasn’t immediately released, suffered bumps and bruises, but refused to be taken to the hospital.
The other driver was admitted Porter Regional Hospital with leg injuries.
LaFlower said her blood alcohol content registered .29 percent – more than three times the legal limit.
LaFlower said a warrant for her arrest will be sought.
