PORTAGE | A 20-year-old Lake Station man was arrested Saturday evening for trying to leave Walmart with three bottles of alcohol stuffed in his pants.
Police arrested Javier Torres, 2701 New Hampshire, Lake Station, shortly before 7 p.m. Saturday on a felony charge of theft and minor possession of alcohol, a misdemeanor.
Torres was allegedly spotted at Walmart, 6087 U.S. 6, in the liquor department. He then walked to the infant department where he allegedly tried to conceal two bottles of Absolut vodka and one bottle of peach-flavored Ciroc inside his pants.
Torres then was observed exiting the store, bypassing all cash registers. He was stopped by a loss prevention officer.
Torres told the officer he had planned on taking the alcohol home to drink it and asked for leniency, as this was the first time he had gotten into trouble. Torres was handcuffed and transported to Porter County Jail.
