PORTAGE | A man was arrested early Sunday morning after police said he threatened his neighbors and resisted police.
Steven Yakel, 41, of 2785 Brown St., was charged with intimidation, public intoxication, resisting law enforcement, fleeing and trespassing.
Police were called to the 2700 block of Brown Street about 1:30 a.m. Sunday on a report that Yakel had violated a written trespass warning given to him earlier in the day.
When police arrived, they saw Yakel walking toward his home and yelled at him to stop. Yakel allegedly ignored police and continued to his home. Police used force to enter Yakel's home and found him hiding in one of his bedrooms.
Yakel continued to resist police as he was handcuffed and taken to a police car. Yakel showed signs of intoxication, police said.
The neighbor told police Yakel was knocking on her door, yelling for her husband. Yakel had been issued a trespass warning earlier in the day for threatening the neighbors and to do harm to their children.
During transport to the Porter County Jail, Yakel allegedly continued to make threatening statements, saying he was going to shoot his neighbor for calling police, police said.
