PORTAGE | Police believe a drunken guest with a sweet tooth and a power drill is responsible for damage to a pair of vending machines at the Days Inn.
Michael St. Ours Jr., 21, of Appleton, Wis., faces theft, residential entry and criminal mischief charges, according to Portage police.
Officers were called to the Days Inn, 6161 U.S. 20, about 10 p.m. Monday for a reportedly drunken man wandering the hotel with a large drill.
A clerk told police a man believed to be staying on the second floor came to the front desk and was being obnoxious as she helped others ahead of him. She said when it was his turn, the man revved up his power drill and asked for room keys. When denied, he walked away.
Officers went to St. Ours' room, where his co-worker said his drill went missing while he was asleep. Police said they also found eight bags of candy scattered in the room, which the man said weren't his.
Police began searching the hotel, looking for St. Ours. A couple told officers a man matching his description earlier made his way into their room, saying his name was "Kiddo" and he was a hotel employee there to drill holes in the walls and floor. The couple said he left without causing any damage.
Officers were called back to the man's hotel room where they found St. Ours passed out on a bed.
Police said the man was arrested and taken to Porter County Jail.
