PORTAGE | An alleged shoplifter told police "my pills made me do it," when he was nabbed for attempting to steal from a local retailer Monday evening.
Timothy S. Moyers, 40, of 5068 Exeter in Portage, was arrested after police said he attempted to steal $161 of items from Menards, 6220 U.S. 6, about 6:30 p.m. Monday. He was charged with theft.
According to the police report, Moyers was seen via store surveillance pushing a shopping cart through the store, selecting several items. He was also spotted opening a utility knife package, putting the knife in his pants pocket and discarding the empty packaging onto the sales shelf. Moyers was observed allegedly doing the same thing with several other items.
He then when to the sales register and purchased several items, but allegedly did not pay for the items he had concealed in his pants and jacket pockets.
Moyers told police he took the concealed items from the store because he hadn't taken his medication recently and that "my pills made me do it."
