PORTAGE | A Gary woman was arrested Tuesday morning after telling police she had taken medication from a resident at a Valparaiso retirement community where she works.
Dynel Matvia, 24, of Gary, was charged with three counts of operating while intoxicated, four counts of possession of a controlled substance and a single count of theft.
Police stopped Matvia about 12:30 a.m. Thursday on U.S. 20 near Dombey Road. Police said Matvia was drifting between lanes as she drove. According to the police report, Matvia appeared drowsy, had watery eyes and slurred speech. According to police, she told officers she had taken Suboxone earlier in the morning due to her heroin addiction.
When police searched her vehicle, they found a vial of what was found to be oxycodone. Police said she told officers she stole the medication from a resident at a Valparaiso retirement community where she works. She told police that her boyfriend made her steal the drugs, according to the report. She also allegedly told police she had taken two of the oxycodone prior to leaving work for home.
During the investigation and her booking into the Porter County Jail, police also located 31 alprazolam, 28 hydrocodone, eight additional oxycodone and a purse with several pieces of miscellaneous jewelry inside.
