PORTAGE | Residents who own cats and dogs now can register their pets online.

Clerk-Treasurer Chris Stidham said pet owners can go to www.myportageanimal.com to complete registration of their cats and dogs over the age of 6 months.

In December the city approved new measures for licensing pets, adding cats to the requirement, but dropping the $3 registration fee.

The online registration form requests owner name and address information along with the name of the pet, breed, description, veterinarian and rabies vaccination information.

Once submitted, owners should receive the annual city tag within seven to 10 days.

City officials hope by offering online registration that more people will register their animals, which, in turn will make it easier to return pets to their owners should they become loose or lost.

Those who do not have Internet access may still fill out a registration form at City Hall, 6070 Central Ave.
