PORTAGE | Portage Clerk-Treasurer Chris Stidham is hosting what he hopes to be the first in a series of town hall meetings on Saturday.
The meeting will be from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Portage High School fieldhouse. Fifth District Councilman Matt Scheuer will join him at the meeting.
"I want them to be a listening tour of sorts," said Stidham, adding he hopes to have meetings in different neighborhoods within the city, inviting that district's councilperson to join him.
Stidham said he got the idea after attending a luncheon for street department employees hosted by Councilman Mark Oprisko recently.
"It was nice to chat with those folks. They had concerns I had not really expected to hear," he said.
Stidham said his hosting the meetings may be a break from the past, but believes, as one of nine elected city officials, he is just as interested in citizen input.
"I've been a more engaged clerk-treasurer than those in the past. As clerk-treasurer, I am the one who know where most of the money is at and how it is being spent," he said.
Stidham said he would spend the first 10 to 15 minutes of the meeting reviewing city projects and then will turn over the floor for resident concerns, questions and complaints.
He is unsure how often he will hold the meetings. That, he said, depends on the turnout of the initial gathering.
