PORTAGE | Portage firefighters ratified their new contract this week with a vote of 36 to 3.
Portage Firefighters Local 3151 President Mark Vittetoe said members had questions regarding changes in health insurance, but will be meeting with insurance representatives in the future.
Vittetoe declined to give details about the contract, pending votes by the city's Board of Works and the Portage City Council.
"We are very glad to be going into a new year with a contract," he said. The firefighter's current contract was scheduled to expire Dec. 31.
The firefighters' contract is one of five city and union officials have been negotiating this year.
Operating Engineers Local 150 represents street and sanitation, park, police and utility workers.
Agreements on those contract reportedly have been reached, but no votes have, as of yet, been taken by either city employees or city officials.
