PORTAGE | A Portage High School paraprofessional was terminated Thursday following her arrest on drug charges earlier this month.

Alisha M. Stark-Yeo, 24, of 621 Olympia Road, South Haven, was fired following a Feb. 4 incident involving Stark-Yeo and three students, Superintendent E. Ric Frataccia confirmed Thursday.

Stark-Yeo was charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana Feb. 14. A 19-year-old student, Aaron L. White, of 2160 Hamstrom Road, Portage, also was charged with a misdemeanor count of possession.

Two juvenile students were charged with possession of marijuana following the Feb. 4 incident at the high school.

According to a police report, Stark-Yeo, a paraprofessional who works in the school's special education department, found a plastic bag containing 34.6 grams of marijuana inside a headphone case in her desk drawer. She told police White had put the headphone case in the drawer about a half-hour earlier.

Stark-Yeo said she panicked, took the marijuana to her car and then, a short time later, brought it back into the building and gave it back to White, police said. She eventually approached the school resource officer, police said.

When asked why she didn't turn the pot over to the school resource officer or an administrator, Stark-Yeo told officers she didn't know what she was supposed to do, police said.

When police and administrators questioned White about the marijuana, he told them he was holding it for another student, police said.

Police interviewed that student and found the marijuana wrapped in a paper towel inside a pencil bag, police said. That student told police he had received the marijuana earlier in the morning on the school bus from a third student.

Police and PHS administrators interviewed the third student, who said he was holding it for the second juvenile student, police said.
