PORTAGE | The city's police, street and fire department are all looking to purchase new vehicles.

At Tuesday's Board of Works meeting, the police department was given permission to seek quotes on a new pickup truck with a snow plow.

Assistant Chief Bill Mesich said the new truck would cost between $25,000 and $26,000 with the plow an additional $4,100 to $4,200. The truck would replace a 1996 model now used by the department. Adding a plow, said Mesich, would allow the department to plow its own parking lot and possibly other city lots.

The street department received permission to seek bids for one or two new full-sized snow plows. Assistant Superintendent Randy Reeder said the department would like to purchase up to two new trucks to help replace those in the aging fleet. The cost is estimated to exceed $150,000.

Fire Chief Tom Fieffer said the fire department is also seeking quotes on the purchase of one or two new administrative SUVs to replace existing vehicles.

The Board of Works would have to approve all purchases when the quotes or bids are received.
