VALPARAISO | Bond was denied Friday for a 39-year-old Portage man who is accused of sexually molesting a young girl for more than three years and videotaping at least some of the acts.

Kevin Brewster, of 6710 Blackstone Circle, is facing nine felony counts. He also is accused of beginning to abuse the girl's younger sister, who is now 5, according to court documents.

Porter Superior Judge Bill Alexa said Brewster will remain behind bars at the jail based on concerns from the girls' mother that he would flee with the girls if released.

Deputy Prosecutor Mike Drenth said Brewster is a flight risk because of the severity of the allegations and potential penalty of 20 to 50 years for each of the four Class A felony charges pending against him.

"That's quite an incentive for someone not wanting to show up," he said.

Brewster is charged with five counts of child molesting, three counts of child exploitation and one count of possessing child pornography.

The allegations came to light after the older girl, who is now 9, was presented with information about the child molesting at her Portage elementary school, police said. The girl confided with her mother, who reportedly found memory cards containing video recordings of the abuse.

The older girl accused Brewster of forcing her to carry out various sex acts as often as three to four days each week. She further accused him of video recording 20 to 30 of the incidents.

A trial is scheduled for Aug. 27, with preliminary hearings June 29 and July 27.
