PORTAGE | A Portage man was arrested Monday afternoon after allegedly hitting two men in separate incidents.
Robert Blakely, 27, of 2532 McCool Road, was charged with two misdemeanor counts of battery and transported to Porter County Jail.
Police responded to a complaint in the 1900 block of Center Street just after 2 p.m. Monday. A man at that residence told police that Blakely had forced his way into the home.
The man said he refused entry to Blakely at the home because it appeared he had been drinking and he didn't trust Blakely. Blakely pushed his way into the house, punched the man and slammed him into a brick wall before taking a beer from the refrigerator and then leaving, according to the report.
About 25 minutes later police responded to the 2500 block of McCool Road where a man was holding Blakely on the ground.
That man told police he was trying to leave his home when Blakely approached him and wanted to leave with him. The man refused because Blakely appeared intoxicated. When the man went to enter his vehicle, Blakely "suckered punched" him, according to the report.
After Blakely attempted to strike him again, the man told police he wrestled Blakely to the ground and held him until police arrived. In the process of the altercation, Blakely struck his head on the concrete.
He was transported to the local hospital for medical clearance before being taken to jail.
