PORTAGE | A 19-year-old Portage man was arrested Thursday morning after threatening in social media posts to "go on a rampage," police said.
Eric Rizley, 19, of 3044 Angelina St., was charged with felony intimidation and taken to Porter County Jail.
Police were called about 7:40 a.m. Thursday and told that Rizley was posting threats on Facebook.
Rizley had posted statements such as "Watch out portage people might be dying soon" as his status, and when his mother and several others tried to calm him down via the website, he continued to post threats such as "No seriously imma go on a rampage," "bang bang," "No this is it I'm bout to flip out" and "I'm bout to flip out right now."
When police arrived, Rizley answered the door, but stepped outside. Police allege he smelled like burnt marijuana. Police assured him they knew he had been smoking, but weren't concerned about it and Rizley allowed them in.
A friend at Rizley's home allegedly told police that Rizley has anger issues and has trouble dealing with issues in his life, often becoming more angry and violent when he drinks.
Both the friend and Rizley's mother said they have been trying to get him into counseling.
Rizley told police he had no intention of carrying out the threats and had no answer as to why he didn't stop posting them when his mother had asked him to.
