PORTAGE | A 27-year-old Portage man was arrested Monday and is facing charges stemming from a relationship with an underage girl.
Brian Letica has been charged with two counts of felony child molestation and one count of felony child solicitation.
The charges stem from a 3 1/2-month relationship Letica allegedly had with a girl under the age of 14.
According to court records, Letica began a relationship with the younger sister of one of his friends in June 2013. The relationship lasted until mid-September when the girl's mother found a cellphone allegedly purchased by Letica for the girl that contained inappropriate text messages.
The girl told police that he bought the cellphone after the two began kissing last summer. The girl denied she and Letica ever had intercourse, despite his asking. She told police he fondled her on several occasions.
Letica is accused of pressuring the girl into sending him photographs of herself on the cellphone. She told police, while she sent him photos of herself wearing only underwear, she did not send nude photos.
Letica told police the girl initiated the relationship and that she wanted to have sexual intercourse to lose her virginity to him. He told police the two never became physical because they were never alone together. He also denied touching her inappropriately.
The incidents allegedly took place at her Portage home and the Lake Station home of the girl's brother.
Letica is being held without bond pending an initial hearing Thursday in front of Porter Superior Court Judge Roger Bradford.
