VALPARAISO | A 53-year-old Portage man is charged with molesting two underage girls between January 2010 and August 2011.
Scott Nicol, of 6522 Fairview Ave., faces four felony molestation counts, including two that carry a potential sentence each of 20 to 50 years behind bars.
Nicol is accused of fondling and engaging in sexual deviate conduct with both girls on more than 10 occasions each.
Investigators said when they asked one of the girls to label the genital region of a drawing of a female, she giggled and then tears filled her eyes. The tears reappeared when the process was repeated and the girl drew a circle around the genital region of the picture when asked "where Nicol had touched her and made her feel uncomfortable," police said.
The second girl also described being molested by Nicol and said she did not tell her mother because she believed she would wind up in trouble.
Investigators said Nicol became upset when they informed him they wanted to meet to discuss the two girls. He arrived at the Portage detective bureau May 9 with an attorney, who informed the officers Nicol would not be answering questions at that time.
Nicol was still in custody Wednesday and was being held without bond.
His case is assigned to Porter Superior Court Judge Bill Alexa and no initial hearing was scheduled as of Wednesday afternoon.
