PORTAGE | A convicted felon employed at a security company was arrested Friday, accused of illegally having three firearms and more than 300 rounds of ammunition.
William J. Weigand, of Portage, was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.
According to an affidavit unsealed Friday, law enforcement officials who searched Weigand's car in October found three firearms, 375 rounds of ammunition and fraudulent firearm permits.
Weigand was convicted of burglary in 1989 and served 30 months of probation, according to the affidavit. The Indiana State Police found he had applied for three handgun licenses in 2012 using different addresses.
Allied Barton Security Services, the security company Weigand worked for, originally told officials about the fraudulent handgun license.
