PORTAGE | Kareem King is facing several charges after police stopped the car in which he was riding because he wasn't wearing his seat belt.
King, 21, of Portage, was charged with identity deception, invasion of privacy, possession of marijuana and false reporting Thursday afternoon following a traffic stop on Lute Road at Lancer Street. He was also wanted on three outstanding warrants.
When police stopped the car, King provided them with false information as to who he was. The driver of the car, Tiara L. Johnson, 21, of Valparaiso, refused to tell police his name. She was charged with false reporting.
Police found King had provided identification information of the man he had been living with. That man told police King had been staying with him for a few months because King was homeless.
Police also found an active restraining order between King and Johnson. They also found a marijuana "roach" in King's sock.
Both King and Johnson were transported to Porter County Jail.
