PORTAGE | Police are investigating a shooting that occurred Saturday afternoon.
Officers were called about 4:45 p.m. to Porter Portage Hospital Campus where staff there reported a man with a gunshot wound.
The victim, a 33-year-old man, told police he was outside his vehicle at the Speedway gas station at U.S. 6 and Swanson Road when he heard a "bang" and realized he had been shot.
Police said the man was shot in the left side of the chest and drove himself to the hospital. Police did not identify the man, but said he will survive the shooting.
Sgt. Keith Hughes said detectives are still going through surveillance video from the area.
Police are asking anyone who was in the vicinity of the gas station on Saturday who may have seen or heard anything suspicious to call Detective Capt. Joe Reynolds at (219) 762-3122.
Based on the initial investigation, police said they do not believe the shooting was a random act of violence.
