PORTAGE | The Board of Works opened bids Tuesday for the purchase of two fully-automated trash/recycling trucks.
When delivered, Assistant Street Superintendent Randy Reeder said, Portage will have seven fully-automated trucks and will be moving to one-man pick-ups of trash and recyclables.
Reeder said it will take four to five months to receive the trucks once a contract is awarded.
Bids were received from:
- Link Environmental Equipment, of Winamac, Ind., for $430,040 for the purchase or $453,369 for a five-year lease;
- Pyramid Equipment, Inc., of Rolling Prairie, Ill., for $491,642 for the purchase or $518,313 for a five-year lease;
- Best Equipment, of Indianapolis, for $447,610 for the purchase or $471,890 for a five-year lease and
- Great Lakes Peterbilt, of Portage, for $425,355 for purchase with no lease offer.
Members took the bids under advisement and will likely award a contract on Dec. 23.
