PORTAGE | Meijer general manager Hank Meijer presented the Portage Food Pantry with a check for $2,000 as part of the store’s opening day celebration last month.

It was one of several gifts presented to various groups and branches of city government, and, according to Meijer, it is one way that the corporation reaches out to its home communities in partnership.

The pantry board expressed its appreciation to the Meijer Corp., saying its generosity will go a long way toward feeding the hungry of Portage Township.

The pantry is reminding gardeners they can donate some of their home-grown vegetables. Donations can be brought to the pantry, behind New Vistas Neighborhood Educational Opportunities Center at 5391 Central Ave., on the first, third, or fourth Fridays of each month between 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
