PORTAGE | A Chicago man who brought his own liquor to a local bar early Monday morning ended up being arrested and shocked with a Taser when he became combative with police.
Carlos Santiago, 27, was charged with resisting law enforcement, possession of marijuana, disorderly conduct and public intoxication.
Police were called to Sunset Lounge, 5844 U.S. 6, at 3:25 a.m. Monday after Santiago came into the bar with an open bottle of vodka. The bartender told him he couldn't do that and he began to argue with her. She called police.
When police arrived, Santiago allegedly continued to argue with them. Instead of giving police his driver's license when asked for identification, he gave them a credit card.
When police took Santiago outside of the business, he continued to attempt to get away from police by trying to pull from their grasp. He also threatened an officer.
Police then tried to put Santiago into a police car, but he resisted until an officer deployed a taser to his abdominal area. Santiago then complied with police.
Police searched Santiago's car and found a small bag of marijuana in the center console.
He was transported to Porter County Jail.
