PORTAGE | Portage Police Chief Troy Williams said Friday that the murder of a witness in the slaying of a Portage resident won't deter their investigation into the initial homicide.
Antoinetta Johnson, 34, of Hammond, was shot to death in her beauty salon Thursday afternoon at 1008 W. Fifth Ave., Gary. Johnson was a witness in the Nov. 1 killing of Carl Griffith Sr., of Portage.
Johnson, according to police is the link between Dontaye Singletary, who allegedly shot Griffith to death in his front yard, and Sheaurice Major, who hired Singletary to commit the murder.
"This apparent targeted act of violence occurred in broad daylight and across from the Gary Police Department and that suspect remains at large," Williams said in a statement Friday morning.
"Gary police detectives are investigating and our detectives have been in contact with them. This homicide does not deter our focused efforts to bring Mr. Griffith's killers to justice. Our detectives and patrol officers have worked countless hours in bringing charges against the suspects Dontaye Singletary and Sheaurice Major and as such we will continue our investigation without hesitancy," Williams wrote in a email sent out to area media outlets.
