PORTAGE | Portage police are seeking the public's help locating two men following the the armed robbery of a cigarette store on Sunday.
Police are calling Garland P. Jeffers, 42, and Roscoe D. McClendon, 49, persons of interest. Police said Jeffers, McClendon and a third unnamed man are known to frequent Gary, but travel between Gary and Milwaukee, according to a Portage police press release.
Police were called about 5:50 p.m. to the store at 3456 Willowcreek Road. Police said two employees told them two men entered the store, one had a gun, and ordered the employees to lie face down on the floor.
Employees told police cigarettes and cash were taken. The employees were not hurt.
Police said on Wednesday, Portage officers, with the assistance of the Gary Police Department Crime Supression Unit, Gary SWAT team, Gary Narcotics and Vice Unit and the Porter County Drug Task Force went into Gary looking for the men. Police said they found the vehicle used in the robbery and also spoke to the person who rented the care from a Milwaukee rental agency.
