PORTAGE | Contracts with all Portage Township Schools employee groups should be wrapped up by the first of the year or shortly thereafter.
Superintendent Ric Frataccia told the School Board at its discussion meeting Wednesday night that he would be recommending pay increases for nonunion classified and administrative staff equivalent to what teachers received earlier this year.
The teachers contract was approved with a 1 percent pay increase on base pay and a one-time 1 percent stipend for 2013.
The nonunion and administrative staff pay increases will be on the board's regular meeting agenda at 6 p.m. Monday at Fegely Middle School.
Dave Harman, director of support services, said negotiations are continuing with custodians, transportation, food service and support services staff employee groups. He said he anticipates negotiations will be completed for the custodians and transportation staff prior to the end of the year, but not early enough to seek contract approval at Monday's meeting.
Harman added that support services and food service staff negotiations should wrap up shortly after the first of the year.
In other business, Frataccia reported the district is close to completing a request for proposals for a new telephone system and is working on a request for proposals for a specialized server to connect its individual servers.
He said staffers also are looking into an online registration system that would supplement the summer registration process. Eventually, said Frataccia, the district would move to a total online registration system.
Frataccia also reported that students in grades 6, 8, 10 and 12 will participate in the annual Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs survey from the state and administered by Indiana University.
The survey will be given online Feb. 25 through March 1, with a report back to the district in August.
