PORTAGE | Portage Township Schools kindergarten registration will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m., 1 to 2:30 p.m. and 6 to 7 p.m. April 3 at each elementary school for children who will be 5 years old on or before Aug. 1.
Parents must bring the child's: board of health birth certificate, proof of immunization (board of health or physician verified) and Social Security number, if available.
They must also provide two pieces of documentation from the following list: lease agreement, mortgage papers, driver’s license, NIPSCO bill, water and/or sewer bill, bill with the home mailing address, home telephone or cellphone bill with home mailing address, guardianship papers, notarized affidavit of residency and Indiana Department of Education form I, II or III (form can be picked up at child’s school).
Parents are encouraged to bring their child to the school. Information on the program will be distributed. Fees will not be collected until registration in July.
Parents of children who turn 5 years of age on Aug. 2 and before Sept. 1 may request a waiver of the kindergarten school entrance date. Requests for a waiver will be accepted at each school until Monday, Aug. 5. Details for submitting a waiver request, or any other information regarding kindergarten enrollment, may be obtained from each elementary school office.
The Porter County Health Department in the North County Complex on Willowcreek Road will offer a walk in immunization clinic on April 5 for children entering kindergarten in the fall. For more information on the clinic, call (219) 759-8239.
