PORTAGE | As work progresses on the repaving of Central Avenue, a Portage official announced Tuesday additional projects will be completed this year.
Director of Public Works A.J. Monroe told the City Council this week that the paving of Central Avenue between Hamstrom and McCool roads should be completed this week. Some landscaping work will follow.
In addition, Monroe said Portage has been able to cobble together some additional funds to take on more paving projects.
Monroe said the city has about $369,000 from the local road and street fund along with a reimbursement from the Utility Services Board for equipment it will use for paving and sidewalk replacement.
While the Board of Works is scheduled to act on the projects at its Monday meeting, Monroe said they will likely include the repaving of Lute Road between Swanson Road and Destiny Street; Central Avenue between Dombey and Willowdale roads and Monnier Street between Central and Mulberry avenues.
If there are sufficient funds, paving work will also be done in the area of Arlene, Joann, Osage and Tulip streets. Additional crack sealing work is planned.
Monroe said residents have also been opting to participate in the city's sidewalk replacement program. The program allows residents to pay for materials to replace sidewalks while the city provides the labor. Monroe said the additional funds found will also be used toward those sidewalk projects.
