PORTAGE | The pending departure of a Portage Township Schools assistant superintendent has prompted school officials to reorganize administrative roles.
Assistant Superintendent Tom Taylor will be leaving the Portage district effective June 30 to take the superintendent's position with Hanover Community School Corp. in Cedar Lake.
Superintendent E. Ric Frataccia told the School Board this week that with Taylor's departure he is looking at restructuring the administration.
Frataccia said he will recommend at the board's June 24 meeting the creation of a director of technology. Some of the money from Taylor's position would be used to fund the new position, he said.
Frataccia said the new position is necessary as the district continues to move to one-to-one technology for students.
Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education Mary Tracy will become the assistant superintendent for grades kindergarten through eight.
Director of Support Services Dave Harman will be given additional responsibilities, including managing classified employees.
Two associate high school principal positions will be created, one to oversee grades 10 through 12 and the other to oversee grade nine and the looping program.
