Items stolen from unlocked car at hospital

PORTAGE | A Portage Township woman reported to police Tuesday that someone had entered her unlocked car wile it was parked at Porter Portage Hospital Campus, 3630 Willowcreek Road, earlier that morning.

Missing from the vehicle was $15 in cash and various bank and identification cards.


Speeding stop leads to theft arrest

PORTAGE TOWNSHIP | A Chesterton man was arrested after police found him with a bottle of rum, a trunk full of CD players and a stolen license plate.

Nathan Gilbert, 19, was stopped about 9:45 a.m. Wednesday near U.S. 6 and Juniper Road.

Police said he was driving 34 mph in a 20 mph zone. Police said the license plate on Gilbert's vehicle had been stolen off a vehilce in Chesterton.

Police searched Gilbert's car and found five CD players in the trunk. Police confiscated the CD players until ownership of the players could be confirmed.

Gilbert was charged with theft and possession of alcohol by a minor.
