Portage woman charged with disorderly conduct
PORTAGE | A Portage woman was arrested Sunday after police said she yelled at officers who were investigating a claim of vandalism against her son.
Police were called Sunday morning to the 5600 block of Creekview for a report of a boy throwing rocks at a car. Police said a witness told officers he saw a boy throwing rocks at cars, damaging two cars. He told police he then saw the boy run into an apartment.
Police said officers talked to the boy and his parents, and the boy told officers he threw the rocks. But police said his mother became irate, then told police they couldn't prove he did it, then told police it was an accident.
After repeated warnings to stop shouting, she was arrested.
Patrice Hilliard, 24, of Portage was charged with resisting law enforcement and disorderly conduct.
Michigan City man arrested, charged with intimidation
VALPARAISO | A Michigan City man was arrested Monday after police said he threatened to kill his ex-wife and her new boyfriend.
Jesse Haack, 31, was taken into custody at his home in Michigan City. He faces an initial felony charge of intimidation.
Haack's ex-wife went to the Porter County Sheriff's Department to report previous threats, and while she was at the police station talking to an officer, Haack called again, according to police. His ex-wife put the call on speaker phone, and police said Haack threatened to kill her current boyfriend and said, "You're next."
Haack was located by Michigan City police and held until Porter County police arrived.
Chesterton Kmart reports counterfeit currency
CHESTERTON | Chesterton police are investigating a report of counterfeit bills being passed at Kmart, 750 Indian Boundary Road.
Police were called Monday by Kmart loss prevention officials when it was learned that two men spent about $1,100 on electronics using counterfeit $50 and $100 bills.
Police said the two men separately bought a television and laptop computers on Sunday afternoon.
