Man arrested following girlfriend's theft arrest
PORTAGE | A Portage Township man found himself in trouble Wednesday night after his girlfriend was arrested at Walmart, 6087 U.S. 6, for shoplifting.
When police were escorting Brittany K. Rush, 20, of 436 Prescott Road, South Haven, out of the store following her arrest on theft charges, Cody Hamilton, 18, of 664 McCool Road, Portage Township, was sitting on an outside bench.
According to the report, Hamilton questioned officers where she was going and identified her as his girlfriend. Hamilton allegedly started cussing at police and was warned about being arrested for disorderly conduct because others were walking in and out of the retailer.
However, Hamilton continued raising his voice and was eventually arrested on a disorderly conduct charge. Both Hamilton and Rush were transported to Porter County Jail.
Boy, 15, chased from garage arrested on burglary charge
PORTER TOWNSHIP | A 15-year-old boy was arrested after a woman who lives on Cherrywood Lane said she returned to her home and saw the boy inside her garage.
Police said the woman chased the boy about 30 yards, but he got away. Police were called and an officer found a boy matching his description.
The woman told police it appears the boy was about to take an ATV that was parked in the garage.
He was arrested on a burglary charge and for violating his probation.
