Vandalism reported to building
CHESTERTON | The owner of the building which houses Hooligans, 711 Plaza Drive, reported to police Wednesday that sometime overnight someone had spray painted a symbol and letters on the back of the building. The damage was estimated at $1,000.
Chance encounter leads to disturbance, arrest
PORTAGE | A Portage woman was arrested early Thursday morning after a chance encounter with an ex-boyfriend led to a disturbance.
Amber M. Carr, 25, of 5103 Sunrise, was charged with battery, disorderly conduct and public intoxication.
According to a police report, Carr was invited to an early morning breakfast at Denny's restaurant, 6171 U.S. 20. When she arrived just after 4 a.m., she found the man who had invited her sitting with her ex-boyfriend and two women. The man who invited Carr was unaware of her relationship to the other man at the table.
When Carr arrived, words were exchanged and she allegedly began throwing plates of food and cups of drinks at the women, punched one woman and threw her cell phone before employees broke up the altercation.
The two men and two women did not attempt to fight back, according to the report.
Carr was taken into custody when police arrived.
Thefts reported from vehicles
PORTAGE | Two residents of the 5800 block of Newport Avenue reported to police Thursday morning that items had been taken from their vehicle.
One resident told police someone entered her locked vehicle sometime between 4 a.m. and 6:45 a.m. Missing was a laptop computer and bottle of prescription cough syrup.
A second officer, while in patrol in the same neighborhood, spotted the door of a car parked in the driveway was ajar. The interior of the car was ransacked. The officer woke the residents, who checked the car and said $20 was missing from a wallet that had been in the car, along with her driver's license.
