Burglar steals jewelry, cash from Portage woman's home
PORTAGE | A resident of the 5400 block of Central Avenue reported to police Tuesday morning that someone broke into her home while she was away for just a few hours.
Taken from the home was costume jewelry valued at $70, a dental retainer valued at $280, a check for $1,100, $65 in cash, eight video grams valued at $500 and miscellaneous compact discs valued at $200.
The woman told police the house was locked when she left, but a window was open and a door was found unlocked when she came home.
Man reports computer stolen from car at Portage business
PORTAGE | A Portage man reported to police Tuesday that a laptop computer was stolen from his car, likely on Nov. 30, while it was parked at Bass Pro Shop, 6425 Daniel Burnham Drive.
The man told police that on Nov. 30 the interior of his car appeared to have been gone through, but it wasn't until Tuesday he noticed his computer missing.
Illinois women arrested, charged with shoplifting
PORTAGE | Two Oak Forest, Ill. women were arrested for attempting to steal several items Tuesday night from Meijer, 6050 U.S. 6.
Police reported to the store at 8:42 p.m. after being contacted by a loss prevention officer. The man told police he saw a woman, identified as Courtney Cline, 21, appear to signal another woman, identified as Katie Denton, 28, at an exit of the store. Denton then appeared and exited the store with a cart full of items including a Razor scooter, Minnie Vanity playhouse and Nerf gun, valued at $210.
The women put the items in a car and left. A police officers stopped two men who had been with the women at the store. After a telephone call, the women returned to the store and were arrested.
