Two cars broken into at Little League fields; purses stolen
PORTAGE | Two residents reported to police Wednesday night that their vehicles were broken into while they were parked near the Portage Little League fields.
The residents reported to police just after 9 p.m. that their vehicles had been parked in the 2500 block of Spc. Roy Buckley Way near the fields while they were watching baseball games.
Passenger door windows of both vehicles were broken out and purses were stolen from each vehicle. A witness told police that when an alarm went off on one of the vehicles, he saw two men enter a car and drive away onto Central Avenue.
Man is charged with drunken driving after parked cars hit
VALPARAISO | A Valparaiso man was arrested early Thursday morning after reportedly striking three parked cars and leaving the scene of the accident.
Felipe De Jesus Dias-Flores, 32, of 802 E. Brown St., was charged with multiple counts of driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident and never having a drivers license.
Police were called to the 800 block of Brown Street at 1:49 a.m. Thursday when a woman reported a truck had struck three parked vehicles and left.
Police spotted the black Dodge Ram in the 600 block of Union Street and saw a large amount of paint transfer on the truck.
Dias-Flores appeared to be sleeping in the driver's seat. He initially denied driving the truck, but police saw damage to the vehicle matching the damage on the parked cars.
Police found opened and unopened cans of beer in the truck. Dias-Flores registered a .25 blood alcohol level. He was transported to Porter County Jail after being medically cleared at Porter Regional Hospital.
Apartment burglary nets electronics, exercise gear
SOUTH HAVEN | A resident of the 700 block of Heritage Road reported to police Wednesday night that someone had forced their way into her apartment and taken numerous items.
The door to the apartment had been damaged and the victim told police several pieces of electronics and exercise equipment had been taken as well as some clothes.
The burglary happened sometime between June 13 and Wednesday night.
In the process of investigating the burglary, Porter County sheriff's police arrested a friend of the victim. Lawanda Johnson, 41, of 785 Juniper Road, Apt. 41, was taken into custody after police found she was wanted on a warrant out of LaPorte County.
