Man found, allegedly drunk, lying on side of road
PORTAGE | A 37-year-old Lake Station man was charged with public intoxication Monday night after police found him lying on the side of the road with a can of malt liquor in his hand.
Christopher Pixler's blood alcohol level was .25, more than three times the legal limit.
Police were called to the 5700 block of Mulberry Avenue about 10:45 p.m. Monday to a report of a man lying near the road.
When police arrived, they found Pixler lying face down, dressed in black clothing. As the officer approached him, Pixler began to move.
Pixler told police he had 12 beers and four double shots of whiskey at an unknown bar after he left work at 5 p.m. He told police he didn't know where he was when he was found.
He was transported to Porter County Jail.
Entry doors stolen from Portage home
PORTAGE | Police were called to a home in the 5100 block of Stagecoach Road about 1:30 p.m. Monday.
A real estate agent employed by the property owner to sell the home told police that 9-foot tall entry doors to the home had been stolen sometime within the last few days. The doors were valued at $10,000.
Purse recovered, but IPod missing
PORTAGE | A resident of the 5100 block of Dolphin Drive told police Monday afternoon that while he was at his doctor's office earlier in the day he looked into the bed of his truck and found a black leather purse that didn't belong to him.
When he returned home, he found a manila file folder in the middle of the street.
Police learned it belonged to the man's neighbor who had had her unlocked vehicle rummaged through the night before.
Although her purse and paperwork were returned, missing was an IPod valued at $500.
