Two arrested for fight, underage drinking
PORTAGE | A woman and her boyfriend were arrested early Friday morning following a fight.
Heather L. Smith, 18, of 5266 Old Porter Road No. 7B was charged with battery and minor consumption of alcohol. Dylon Hoopingarner, 19, of the same address, was charged with minor consumption of alcohol.
Police were called at 12:23 a.m. Thursday after Smith got into a physical fight with another woman over Hoopingarner.
Smith is accused of striking the woman and pulling out her hair.
Both Smith and Hoopingarner registered positive for alcohol consumption on a portable breath test. Both were taken to Porter County Jail.
Two adults, two teens arrested
PORTAGE | Two adults and two teens were arrested early Thursday morning in the 600 block of Camelot Manor.
Scott W. Smith, 42, was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and false reporting. Paul Reedus Jr., 38, of 1303 Camelot Manor was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and possession of marijuana. The two teens were charged with minor consumption of alcohol.
The arrests came after the mother of one of the teens came to the police station, saying her 13-year-old daughter "was out partying," according to the report.
Police tracked down the daughter and two other teens to 614 Camelot Manor where they were found to have been drinking. Smith was charged with false informing after initially denying to police that he knew the teens.
Thieves take copper pipes from empty home
PORTER TOWNSHIP | Porter County police on Thursday investigated the theft of copper pipe from a home.
Thieves targeted the empty home in the 10 South Block of Ind. 2, taking copper pipe from the basement and from behind some walls. Police said it appears someone pried open the rear door of the home.
