Resident reports $14,000 in equipment taken from garage
PORTAGE | Police are investigating the burglary of a garage in the 2400 block of Superior Street over night Saturday.
The resident reported to police Sunday morning that someone entered his garage between 11:30 p.m. Saturday and 9:30 a.m. Sunday and stole several items including speakers, tuners, cables, sound mixers, amps and drums. The items were valued at about $14,000.
The resident said his garage had been locked, but police found no signs of forced entry.
Chesterton business reports break-in, missing electronics
CHESTERTON | Owners of Midwest Construction Co., 1331 Broadway, reported to police Sunday night that someone had broken into the business and removed several items.
According to a police report, a pain of glass was broken out of the front door and someone had apparently tried to pry open a door.
Reported missing from the business was a laptop computer, iPod, computer hard drive and several cables. The items were valued at about $1,000.
Camelot Manor resident tells police GPS stolen from car
PORTAGE | A resident of the 1200 block of Camelot Manor reported to police Sunday afternoon that someone had stolen his GPS unit from his car.
The man told police the locked car was entered between 8 p.m. Saturday and noon Sunday while it was parked outside his mobile home. The unit was valued at $100.
Chesterton residents report thefts from unlocked vehicles
CHESTERTON | Two residents told police last weekend that their unlocked vehicles had been entered and items were stolen.
A man reported Friday morning that sometime between 5 p.m. April 4 and 9 a.m. April 5 someone had entered his unlocked vehicle while it was parked in his driveway in the 1700 block of Snead Avenue and stole his laptop computer. The computer was valued at $2,500.
A woman reported to police early Sunday that someone had entered her unlocked car while it was parked in the parking lot of Hooligans, 711-2 Plaza Drive, and removed an unknown amount of change from the center console, a diaper bag, GPS unit and iPhone charger. The items were valued at $310.
Police seeking suspect after burglary at Valpo car wash
VALPARAISO | Police are investigating a Sunday night burglary at the Soft Touch Car Wash, 1303 Vale Park Road.
A security camera shows a white male, about 230 pounds and 6 feet tall entering the business at 10:30 p.m. with a flashlight and checking to see if the safe was unlocked, according to police.
He was wearing a dark-colored jacket with a hood, light-colored jeans, gloves and a nylon mask on his face.
He left the building when the alarm lights went on and fled east and then ran north when he saw a car, police said. Police did not find him.
A brick had been thrown through a window and damage was estimated at $800.
Police: Adults' argument led to assault of 14-year-old girl
LIBERTY TOWNSHIP | An 18-year-old woman faces a battery charge on allegations of assaulting a 14-year-old girl, who had asked her and others to stop swearing around young children.
The girl told police she was watching several younger children in the area of the Whispering Sands mobile home park at 13 W. U.S. 6 Sunday night when a group of adults began arguing, smoking and swearing.
After the girl confronted the group, the 18-year-old woman pushed the girl to the ground, police said.
The girl punched the woman in the face out of self-defense and punched her a second time as the woman pursued her.
Recreational vehicle reported stolen from Valpo business
VALPARAISO | A four-wheel drive recreational vehicle, valued at $8,000, was reported stolen Friday morning from Aquatic Control, 3001 Cascade Drive.
A fence had been cut to remove the vehicle, police said.
