PORTAGE | Police are looking for a suspect who robbed an attendant at the Speedway gas station, 5011 Central Ave., early Wednesday morning.
According to the police, the attendant was working alone at 3 a.m. when he heard the door to the gas station open and close. He said he heard a man say "put the money in the bag" and when he turned to look, he saw a man standing at the only opening to access the area behind the registers.
The attendant told police the man was pointing a black pistol at him with one hand and had a black bag in the other. The attendant was told to put the money for three registers into the bag. He complied and was then told to lie on the floor behind the counter.
The attendant heard the doors open and close again and pressed the alarm panic button. He also called 911.
The suspect is described as a white male between 5-foot 10-inches and 6-foot tall, wearing all black or dark clothing including a hoodie-style sweatshirt, possibly overalls and a black bandanna covering his face.
Police reviewed surveillance footage to see that the suspect was wearing gloves and appeared to have taken a pack of cigarettes. Police were unable to determine what direction the suspect fled.
If anyone has any information, they are asked to contact detective Sgt. Joe Mokol at (219) 762-3122 or the We Tip line at 1-800-78-CRIME.
