PORTAGE | Action by both the city's Plan Commission and City Council advanced a $6 million tax increment financing district bond for reconstructing the city's street department facility.
The plan commission last week approved resolutions and the City Council later held first readings on both bond issue ordinances.
The next step is a public hearing on the proposal at the July 24 Redevelopment Commission meeting. The council will then give final approval.
The Redevelopment Commission initiated the bond to finance reconstruction of the city's street department facility on Hamstrom Road. The project is estimated to cost $6 million. Construction could begin later this year.
