PORTAGE | The Portage Police SWAT unit was activated early Thursday to serve warrants on two men accused of dealing marijuana.
Tito John Caudillo Jr., 43, 5829 McCasland St., was taken into custody shortly after 5:30 a.m. Thursday after police arrived at his home to serve an arrest warrant for felony charges of dealing marijuana, police said.
When nobody responded to police at the door, officers forced open the door using a battering ram and deployed a noise flash diversionary device inside the home. Caudillo initially exited a bedroom but retreated, police said. An officer kicked open the bedroom door and Caudillo was taken into custody, police said.
In addition to the warrant arrest, Caudillo also was charged with possession of an automatic knife police found in the residence, they said.
About an hour later, police backed by the SWAT team took Bradley Sharpe, 25, 6176 Federal Ave., into custody on a warrant arrest without incident. Sharpe was wanted by Porter County Sheriff's Department for failure to comply for two counts of dealing marijuana, police said.
Police said they found a plastic smoking pipe in the home, and Sharpe also was charged with possession of paraphernalia.
