PORTAGE | Three adults and two juveniles were arrested Thursday after Portage police received information about illegal drug activities at a home.
The Portage police SWAT team executed a search warrant at 1:13 p.m. Thursday at 2380 Sloan Ave. after Portage school resource Officer Mike Candiano received information about illegal drug activities at the home as a result of a juvenile battery that had occurred that day.
Police were told there might be several weapons including a high-powered rifle inside the residence.
Police did not find any weapons, but SWAT officers were overcome by the smell of burnt marijuana and took custody of the adults and juveniles, said Sgt. Keith Hughes, Portage police public information officer.
Police recovered numerous pieces of drug paraphernalia throughout the residence and confiscated stolen property, prescription pills, ecstasy, marijuana and a small marijuana growing operation including plants and lighting equipment.
"Should anyone else in the city participate in this type of activity, they can expect the same action of the police department. We will move swiftly to make sure this activity does not happen in the city," Police Chief Troy Williams said.

Sanchez, 33, 2380 Sloan Ave., who has been charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, neglect of a dependent and maintaining a common nuisance; Kyle Clay, 18, of 6515 Lakewood Ave., Portage, charged with visiting a common nuisance; and Julian Duron, 18, 2380 Sloan Ave., charged with possession of marijuana; possession of drug paraphernalia, maintaining a common nuisance, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, intimidation, strangulation and possession of drugs.
