PORTAGE | Two men were arrested Monday afternoon after a traffic stop led to the discovery of a large stash of marijuana in a car.
Guy McDaniel, 58, of South Bend, was charged with dealing marijuana, possession of marijuana and maintaining a common nuisance. Warren Heath III, 43, also of South Bend, was charged with dealing marijuana, possession of marijuana and visiting a common nuisance.
A Portage police officer stopped McDaniel’s car on the Indiana Toll Road after noticing it was traveling 55 mph in a 40 mph zone and he had his windows down while it was raining.
Once stopped, the officer reported he could smell burnt marijuana coming from the car and ashes on McDaniel’s shirt.
Both men denied there was marijuana in the car, but gave officers different reasons for their trip and where they were coming from.
After finding a small amount of marijuana inside the car, the officer discovered a gallon-size zip-type bag full of raw marijuana. Police said it weighed 233 grams.
Both men were arrested.
