VALPARAISO | Two men have been charged with injuring an employee of the Portage 16 IMAX theater this summer and stealing a promotional poster for "The Dark Knight Rises" film.
Brent Cook, 25, of 456 Greenwich St., and Michael Sandridge, 22, of 4306 Bedford Road, both in Valparaiso, were charged with felony theft and misdemeanor battery.
An employee of the theater at 6550 U.S. 6 told police she and another employee were taking down a "Dark Knight Rises" life-size stand-alone poster at about 3 a.m. July 20 when two men approached them and asked if they could have it, according to court documents.
The men were told no and the employees continued the removal process, until one of the men returned, grabbed a piece of the poster and ran, police said. The female employee began a chase, at which time the other man appeared and pushed her against the wall, breaking her right wrist, police said.
A witness came forward and identified Cook after surveillance photographs were published in the newspaper, according to police. Cook reportedly admitted to being at the theater on the night in question with Sandridge.
Police said the photographs appear to show Cook battering the employee while Sandridge fled with the poster.
The men face between six months and three years behind bars if convicted on the felony charge.
